Decision framework
This framework is the backbone of our career change planning work. It is not a software product; it is how we keep decisions inspectable.
1. Name the decision
Write a single sentence: “I am deciding whether to ___ by ___.” If you cannot date it, note the trigger (contract end, visa renewal, parental leave).
2. List options you will actually consider
Include status quo on purpose. Drop fantasy titles that fail your constraints (location, license, runway).
3. Criteria that matter to you
Examples: commute time, learning budget, manager quality, visa eligibility, energy after work. Weight them honestly; no criterion is too mundane.
4. Evidence gaps
For each option, mark facts you still need. Assign a small experiment: a two-week course audit, a budget spreadsheet, or three targeted conversations.
5. Pre-mortem
Assume the choice failed in twelve months. What warning signs would you have ignored? Add safeguards now.
6. Action sheet
Three dated actions, one person responsible each, one review date on the calendar. Store it where you will see it weekly.
